We Need Real Democrats!

Why are things so rotten in America right now? Well actually they are really really good for the richest people and multinational corporations. Things only suck if you are one of the other 297 million citizens of the United States of America. Inside the gated communities things are going just swell. It's just that that doesn't include you and me.

What happened? The people who are supposed to be our friends sold us out. Here's an excerpt from your Sunday reading assignment:

Republicans had taken a prosperous, peaceful nation with a budget surplus and turned it into a nation tottering on the edge of economic catastrophe, with an overextended military and nothing but lint in the bank account. When President Obama came into the office with huge levels of support, it wasn't just that people got caught up in the spirit of the occasion. It was relief. The Republicans, whose every working principle had turned out to be not just wrong but dead wrong, were gone.

All Democrats had to do was to offer an alternative.

Republicans didn't have any master strategy. They didn't have a clue how to get back on top. But as it turned out, they didn't need one.

Instead Republicans only had to sit on their hands as the Democrats rewarded the people who brought down the economy and failed to bring anyone to justice for the complete failure of the system that the Republicans had built up to fail. Failed to bring anyone to justice for deliberately misleading the American people into a war that has taken thousands of lives. Failed even to restore the rule of law and the rights of the accused.

So the number one step we can take as a nation to rebuild this country For The People is....drum roll...

Re-enact the Fairness Doctrine in American media.

Canadians just overwhelmingly reaffirmed their version of the Fairness Doctrine. It simply states that no media outlet can present false or misleading information as "news" and that opinion must be labelled opinion. What could be wrong with that?

That we did not see Democrats immediately re-enact the Fairness Doctrine tells us that there were enough Democrats who were compromised that it could not have passed. Democrats who believe that they are in office as a result of corporate money would not vote against their masters except in cases of extreme harm to the country and its people. Republicans have no such qualms. By failing to step up in their moment of power, Democrats may have doomed our country.

  1. The way the Repubs are always crying about the "liberal Media" you'd think they would be trying to bring back the Fairness Doctrine, wouldn't you?
