What the World Thinks of Us (Hint: It's Not Pretty)

NZ Herald columnist Paul Thomas told it like it is in a Friday column titled The Greatest Threat to America?

 Republicans.

The world is watching our presidential contest with amazed incredulity. Each of the GOP candidates is exposed as is our amazing inability to determine what is important to the future of America.  And then there's the freak show that is Donald Trump...

You might expect a tycoon/buffoon cross to be a political player in some Latin American failed state or backward former Soviet republic, places with no democratic tradition or public institutions that have stood the test of time and no such thing as “the people” in the sense of an educated, civic-minded citizenry.
The fact that so many Republicans are comfortable with the thought of this monumentally unqualified individual in the Oval Office shows how warped the party has become. To borrow the rhetoric of their candidates, the party is now an existential threat to America’s leadership of the global community.
Geez, this is embarrassing! I urge you to read and try not to hang your head too low.

From Our "Trump is an Ass" Dept.

Donald Trump will never be President. He's a publicity hound and  gets that with the current despicable campaign finance laws he can support his billionaire lifestyle with campaign donations from gullible people regardless of their net worth. So he goes for the Presidential PR ride at our expense. Republicans appear to be that gullible. Yes they do.

I really don't care who the Republican base gives their money to except that it turns out that they inflict their idiot candidates on me. At that point I have a problem.

Trump has this big thing about dissing immigrants. He lives very close to a massive monument that has this inscription on it:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Most of us have heard the last five lines but not the rest of it. How many of you have ever heard "Mother of Exiles" as something on our Statue of Liberty?
So when Trump calls Latino immigrants all the things he calls them, he never acknowledges that they are seeking freedom in their way. No, they are "rapists" and worse. "Mexico is sending us their drug addicts and rapists." Trump said that.

Trump lives in New York, the state that recently had a prison outbreak of drug addicts and rapists. Very big news, that! So where did the woman who said she helped them escape say they wanted to go? One to Canada..the other had the dream of making it to Mexico. Mexico! Donald Trump, in his alter ego as American Patriot, was complicit in sending a rapist, murdering, drug addict to Mexico. Except that the authorities captured the guy before he made it.

Thank goodness America never sent their drug addicts, rapists, and murderers to Mexico. That would have lowered the American psyche to the level of every body else in the Western Hemisphere. Where we belong!

The Real Reason Haslam Did Not Meet With the President of the United States of America

From the TFP:

"Gov. Bill Haslam did not greet the president at the airport, and doesn't plan to attend the president's speech. Although there is nothing listed on the Knoxville Republican's public schedule today, Haslam spokesman David Smith said the timing didn't work out for Haslam to meet with the president.
Haslam had "meetings" Wednesday, Smith said. He didn't elaborate."

We are now told that Haslam was busy working out the structure of the new Department of Irrelevancy, which he will head.
